Press release:
Initiation of the "New Technologies / Fondation Liedts-Meesen Award"


The "New Technologies / Liedts-Meesen Foundation
Award" will be bestowed upon an artwork
exploiting state-of-the-art technology and media
in its quest for creativity and renewal. Ten
projects will be chosen by an international jury.
The composition of the jury and the competition
rules may be found on the website:

The presentation of the selected works will take
place at the same time as the « Update II »
exposition of interactive artworks from the
Centre for Art and Media (ZKM) in Karlsruhe
(Germany); the ZKM is internationally known as
the leading museum of new media. Professor Peter
Weibel, Director of the ZKM, will choose artworks
from this prestigious collection.

During the "Update II" exposition (from 20/4 to
6/7/2008), to be held at the Zebrastraat Ghent,
one of the projects presented will be awarded a
cash prize of 5000 euros by the "New Technologies
/ Liedts-Meesen Foundation Award". A People's
award will also be given based on visitors'
assessments of this double exposition.

"Who's afraid of contemporary art; who's afraid
of new media?, Stef resolves your problemsŠ" by
Stef Van Bellingen, commissioner of contemporary
art expositions for the Liedts-Meesen Foundation
(Zebrastraat) at the stand "Zebrastraat" during
Lineart 2007".

In 2004, the Liedts-Meesen Foundation Fondation
Liedts / Meesen took the initiative of renovating
a historic site built by Charles Van
Rysselberghe. Since then, "Zebrastraat" has
become more than the name of a street ; it is now
an ambitious project merging housing, culture and
economy.
