The next Res Artis General Meeting will take place in Amsterdam, in the Netherlands. <br>
Res Artis has several member organizations in the Netherlands. Most of them are actively involved in the preparations for the GM. Dutch Res Artis members offer a wide variety of residency opportunities. Here is a preview. <br>
<br>
<STRONG>Five organizations focus on specific disciplines.</STRONG> <br>
<br>
<ul>
<li>Printmaking and digital printing:
Amsterdam’s <a href="http://www.resartis.org/index.php?id=20&tx_newloginbox_pi3[showUid]=880">Grafisch Atelier</a> organizes various residency programs, inviting artists to work in their extensive printing studios.<br>
Stichting Plaatsmaken in Arnhem offers studio facilities where the traditional graphic techniques meet state of the art video and digital techniques.</li>
<li>Glass:
<a href="http://www.resartis.org/index.php?id=20&tx_newloginbox_pi3[showUid]=584">Vrij Glas Foundation</a> in Zaandam is an international arts research center and laboratory, encouraging experimentation and innovation in glass. It glass studio facilities to emerging and established artists.</li>
<li>Ceramics:
The <a href="http://www.resartis.org/index.php?id=20&tx_newloginbox_pi3[showUid]=135">European Ceramic Work Centre</a> in Hertogenbosch is an international center of excellence where artists, designers and architects explore the artistic and technical possibilities of ceramics as a medium.</li>
<li>Animation:
The <a href="http://www.resartis.org/index.php?id=20&tx_newloginbox_pi3[showUid]=134">Nederlands Instituut voor Animatiefilm</a> in Tilburg offers animators the time, guidance and supervision to master the unique artistic finesses of the discipline, developing participants into professional animation filmmakers.</li></ul>
<br>
<br>
<STRONG>Two are institutions that offer post-academic research and production opportunities</STRONG><br>
<br>
<ul><li>The <a href="http://www.resartis.org/index.php?id=20&tx_newloginbox_pi3[showUid]=2">Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten</a> in Amsterdam, founded in 1870, offers young artists from all over the world their facilities for one to two years of research, production and advanced studies.</li>
<li>The <a href="http://www.resartis.org/index.php?id=20&tx_newloginbox_pi3[showUid]=52">Jan van Eyck Academie</a> in Maastricht is a post-academic institute for research and production, inviting individuals for one or two year fine art, design or theory research periods. </li></ul>
<br>
<STRONG>Two focus on exchange with specific international regions</STRONG><br>
<br>
<ul><li>The <a href="http://www.resartis.org/index.php?id=20&tx_newloginbox_pi3[showUid]=263">Thami Mnyele Foundation</a> focuses on exchange between artists from Africa, offering artists living in Africa a fully funded 3 months residency to work in Amsterdam. </li>
<li><a href="http://www.resartis.org/index.php?id=20&tx_newloginbox_pi3[showUid]=352">Thamgidi Studio</a> in Arnhem allocates studio spaces to professional artists who have been selected for their fully funded award. Their aim is cultural exchange among artists in Africa, Diaspora, Asia and the Netherlands.</li></ul>
<br>
<STRONG>One focuses on working spaces</STRONG><br>
<br>
<ul><li><a href="http://www.resartis.org/index.php?id=20&tx_newloginbox_pi3[showUid]=87">Stichting Atelierbeheer Slak</a> in Arnhem is a studio management organization and provides artists with reasonably priced studios. In partnership with various other organisations, they rent out around 600 studios to artists in all disciplines in the city of Arnhem and the Gelderland province. Slak also hosts international visual artists in their guest studio. </li></ul>
<br>
<STRONG>One is based on collaborative projects: </STRONG><br>
<br>
<ul><li><a href="http://www.resartis.org/index.php?id=20&tx_newloginbox_pi3[showUid]=445">Hotel Mariakapel</a> in Hoorn is an artist run, internationally oriented residency and presentation space, where dialogue and collaboration inform experimental, context-based collaborative art projects. </li></ul>
<br>
<STRONG>One is funder for artists grants in the Netherlands.</STRONG><br>
<br>
<ul><li>The <a href="http://www.fondsbkvb.nl/09_english/index.php">Netherlands Foundation for Visual Arts, Design and Architecture</a> (known in the Netherlands as Fonds BKVB) is the national body offering grants to individual visual artists, designers and architects. The Fonds BKVB offers a wide range of grant options and works closely with several international residency organizations. </li></ul>
<br>
<STRONG>One is a safe-haven for artists who are threatened and persecuted </STRONG><br>
<br>
<ul><li>De Foundation Amsterdam City of Asylum was started in 1997 when Amsterdam officially joined the international network of Cites of Asylum founded by Salman Rushdie. The foundation offers a yearlong residency to a writer, poet or journalist who is threatened or persecuted in his or her own country for the sake of their art or who are obstructed in their ability as a writer. </li></ul>
<br>
<STRONG>One is a site for Cultural Production.</STRONG><br>
<br>
<ul><li><a href="http://www.smartprojectspace.net/">SMART Project Space</a> is located in Amsterdam. It supports artists and promotes the laboratory idea of artistic production and creative research. SPS offers a continuously changing program of exhibitions and events, showing international artists in the early stage of their careers. </li></ul>
<br>
<STRONG>One is an independent information resource for artists</STRONG><br>
<br>
<ul><li><a href="http://www.transartists.nl/">Trans Artists</a> is the host for the next Res Artis General Meetings. Trans Artists is an independent foundation that provides artists with information on residency programs and other opportunities to work and stay in another country “for art’s sake”. </li></ul>

Join us in Amsterdam for the long awaited 2008 General Meeting of Res Artis!<br>
<br>
Registration opens in soon for the three-day event, bringing together delegates from around the world to explore the diversity of resident artist programs and the cultural infrastructure of the Netherlands. With an inspirational series of keynote speakers and ‘Best Practice’ presentations, the meeting will explore the diversity within the Res Artis network, developments in the residency world and connections with current European Commission policy lines. A workshop program will allow for networking and discussions, exploring the basics of starting and developing a residency program and other practical concerns.<br>
<br>
Also planed are visits to Amsterdam-based organizations / studios and an optional trip to Arnhem to meet the prizewinners of the 2006 Res Artis Awards: 11 fully funded residencies were awarded to participants of the 2006 Dak’Art Biennial of African Contemporary Art.<br>

The Meeting is hosted by Trans Artists, in celebration of their 10th anniversary and of their continued collaboration with Res Artis.<br>
