10th of August at 6 p.m. in the Cultural Centre of Požarevac will be held the opening of the exhibition „The Return of the Gastarbajters", which can be seen in various public spaces of the city. The exhibition is the final event of an artistic workshop about the return of the guest workers to their home region and about the impact of this phenomena on the local economy, culture and surrounding.

For the last 22 days twenty artists from Serbia and other countries lived and worked in Požarevac. During a 7 day's seminar they had the opportunity to learn about the history of the region, the current situation and the economic developmment. Part of the seminar was the open forum of the organisation Citizens of Europe on mobility as two way street. The artists interacted with the city and its citizens in different ways.

Curator: Noa Treister
Co-workers: Alex Nikolić, Bojan Gačević, Gordan Bojković
The project is realized by KUD Art Klub Kučevo in cooperation with the Cultural Centre Požarevac, Biro Beograd and Neocom Vienna.
Support: European Cultural Foundation, Ministry for Diaspora, City of Požarevac.

Artist: Vladimir Miladinović, Erin Obradović, Marija Đorđević, Alexander Nikolić, Marija Vidić, Momir Bojović, Jelena Radić, Danijela Pivašević-Tenner, Rena Raedle, Nannette Vinson, Stefan Tenner, Leone Contini, Alice Troise, Ljiljana Stevanović, Mark Brogan, Rebecca Miller, Rofaida Makki
http://www.eroticunion.org/

In the project took part the following artists:

Vladimir Miladinović: On the way to Požarevac I thought about what makes people leave this place. Suddenly, on the entrance to the town, I felt a unbearable stink. I said to myself, that's it, by such unbearable stink even the devil would be driven away. Installation with billboard.

Erin Obradović and Marija Đorđević: We want to put the question about/open space between public and private, absence and presence, monument and house offering a museum tour through the gastarbajters' houses.

Alexander Nikolić: We got to know Požarevac and the people living here. Also the gastarbajters make a huge contribution to the local culture. People that are according to the public opinion neither here nor there. I have been to places, where I found myself as „Alice in Wonderland". I have seen places, where live refugees in very harsh conditions. I am standing between palaces and barracks. My research started in Vienna, and I don't think it will be finished during this workshop. Too many questions are open and the society, within I want to work, is closed. My work would stir communication on many levels. I hope I will succeed with it.

Marija Vidić: The object „Every bird goes with its flock" is made from paper in origami technique. Where is home if you have to travel home 4000 km from your home?

Momir Bojović and Jelena Radić: Short amateur documentary about paradoxes and parallels between certain Roma groups.

Danijela Pivašević-Tenner, Rena Raedle, Nannette Vinson and children of Požarevac are doing a work in progress: „Writing on the sky". The first workshop was held in Stari Kostolac with refugee children, the second in Veliko Crnice with Gastarbajter children. The drawings and documentary fotographs will be exhibited at the cultural centre.

Stefan Tenner – Audio installation

Rebecca Miller: Animation Club. In my workshop at the Computer Gaming Club Birotehnna I offer lessons in flash animation. My intention is to offer the gamers to express themselves through creating animations.
Ljiljana Stevanović: "She came back". Sculpture in 3 parts: Europa, Gastarbajterka and sign to Požarevac.

Leone Contini and Alice Troise „Italijani jedu žabe (Italians eat frogs)". The piece works on stereotypes of the local population about various nations through humour.
Leone Contini: The work is the attempt to transform the potential energy of societal inequality into a concrete act of solidarity. In the settlement of Roma refugees from Kosovo is tried to set up a list of needed materials for infrastructure. This list would be visible in town to reveal the situations of these people. The mentioning of the donor would follow the local system of values and the need of the gastarbajters to be accepted and visible. The project fails! The failure will be presented in form of an empty commemoration stone, which can be used in case of an act of solidarity appears in future.

Mark Brogan: Family tree of a Roma gastarbajter. His family lives abroad already three generations. The tree will be decorated with gastarbajter status symbols.

Rofaida Makki: "What live means to you?" is a workshop in public space, in which everybody can participate. People would paint on bottles of beer about what life means to them. This is a new way of painting through which people can share their ideas and work together.

http://www.eroticunion.org/

Veliki doprinos lokalnoj kulturi čine i mnogi gastarbajteri.
U potrazi za njima, mnogo toga sam video, čuo i saznao. Video sam ovde krajeve, gde sam se osećao kao "alis u wonderlandu", video sam krajeve gde zive raseljena lica pod jako teškim uslovima. Stojim izmedju dvoraca i baraka.

Stefan Tenner – Audio instalacija

Rebecca Miller: Klub Animacije.

Leone Contini i Alice Troise „Italijani jedu žabe".
Projekat propada!

Mark Brogan: Porodično stablo jednog romskog gastarbajtera.
