D'une richesse remarquable, on constate vite qu'elle ne se laisse que difficilement ramener à une réflexion unitaire. Sa force même réside dans la possibilité de varier sa thématisation et de l’analyser sous une multitude de points de vue. Dès lors, il n'est pas étonnant qu'on la rencontre aussi bien en histoire de la philosophie que dans la réflexion philosophique dite "générale". Un malaise subsiste cependant en ceci que peu de penseurs ont osé en faire un terminus technicus de leur vocabulaire. Quelle réalité historique et conceptuelle recouvre cet imbroglio ? Est-il possible de la localiser et de la déplier, de façon à ce que l'on saisisse enfin les vrais enjeux de la notion ? Les contri
