In the beginning of 2008. began the collaboration between Loose Associations/Slobodne veze and the Moldavian association Oberliht. It was a project of artist intervention in the public space of Chisinau, capital of the former Soviet Republic of Moldova. The collaboration was continued in 2009 when the CHIOSC project, a platform for public participation and cultural production, was launched. CHIOSC is embodied in a small architectural unit entitled FLAT SPACE, work of Stefan Rusu, erected in the center of Chisinau.

The FLAT SPACE project is a functional replica of a one-room apartment that comprises the basic components of a typical socialist living space: the kitchen, the bathroom, the living room, and the balcony. The transparency and openness of the structure is an important feature of the project, since the apartment has no external walls (with the exception of the façade), and the flat interior is exposed to the public.

In the summer of 2009, the artist in residency project was initiated within the framework of the CHIOSC project. It led to many types of cooperation and a variety of collaborative artistic projects. The first artist to participate in CHIOSC’s artist in residency program was Tonka Maleković (Hr), whose collaboration with the Moldavian artist Ion Fisticanu resulted in the project The possibility of the city.

The CHIOSC exhibition in VN gallery is part of the Loose Associations: Lines of Movement program, which is aimed at research and documentation of experimental practices in the countries of the former Eastern Bloc.

The exhibition is supported by Ministry of culture, Republic of Croatia and European Cultural Foundation (ECF)
Partner organizations: Oberliht (Chisinau) and Visura Aperta (Zagreb)

--
nataša bodrožić
