Residency
call for applications
http://fransmasereelcentrum.be/en/residency/
Frans Masereel Centre offers residencies for the development of graphic
projects based on artistic production, research or based on an
artistic/theoretical discourse. Eligible are professional artists,
designers, theoreticians, critics and researchers who can present a
consistent curriculum or a portfolio with relevance to Frans Masereel
Centre as a graphic competence centre, or with added value for the current
visual arts domain.
Residents are both graphic and non-graphic artists who work individually
or together. Frans Masereel Centre welcomes national and international
residents to guarantee cultural diversity.
Type A : General residency
During min. 4 and max. 6 weeks a professional artist or graphic designer
realizes a project, which corresponds with his or her own artistic
practice. Experience with the graphic medium is not required, although
every resident has to be able to realize the project independently. Two
members of the technical staff are available for advice or help.
Type B : Research-oriented residency
This residency of two months for researchers, artists and graphic
designers focuses on the research of the graphic medium. The variety of
print techniques, available in Frans Masereel Centre, opens a lot of
opportunities for the further investigation of one technical aspect, or
for a fine-tuning of some graphic techniques, or for a research of the
graphic element in an image. A profound knowledge of the medium is
required. The results of the research will be presented to the public at
the end of the residency in the form of an artists talk.
Type C: Essay
This residency of one month gives artists, critics and theorists the
opportunity to write an essay about the graphic medium. It can for example
contextualize the graphic work of a residing artist in function of an
exhibition. Or it can be a research of the graphic medium.
Type D: School residency
A school residency offers master students the opportunity to realize a
print related project apart from their curriculum. An art school can apply
for a residency of one or two weeks with the backup of a teacher.
