[ R.A.T. ] Residencias ArtÃsticas por Intercambio
Transdisciplinary research project and aesthetic exploration is designed
to create spaces for the development of proposals, discussion and dialogue
between local communities, artists, curators, cultural managers, critics,
scholars and theorists of art from Mexico and abroad through an artist
residency program that operates based on logic of exchange.
Since 2003[ R.A.T. ] has focused on boosting output the production of
independent and emerging contemporary art through various meetings and
workshops that have helped to enrich, encourage and facilitate the
exchange of ideas; creating alternative spaces for project development,
reflection and dialogue.
PRESENTATION
[ R.A.T. ] on its character as an artistic residency  for exchange
assumes through direct contact between different social realities and
actors, is the mean to generate reflection mechanisms, dialogue and
exchange of experiences on issues affecting both marginal communities and
communities with better economic conditions. Hence the completion of Call
Thematic residencies, scholarships or other support, giving rise to the
contemporary artistic production, beyond a reflex projected production and
dissemination of models that serve as background within the public sphere
to future generations. Furthermore, this new artistic production enriches
the offer of cultural consumption locally and globally.
What the artist residency program [ R.A.T. ] is provoking the reading or
plural interpretation given to the same object or phenomenon occurred.
Following Hal Foster in his book The âReturn of the realâ, this
project acknowledges that art rests on a shaft of âhorizontal operation,
synchronous, socialâ where its location at the institutional levels has
largely ceded its dominance of the discursive networks that are linked to
the artistic production. One of the main lines of work results in
addressing the relationship of social processes from the implementation of
specific economic and cultural dynamics (inequality, social exclusion,
marginality, capital, free markets, political movements, gender studies,
urban distribution and wealth).
Â
In this manner art is conceived as a vehicle for cultural, ideological and
social system that is directly involved in the formation of a public
sphere in various positions, where it does not necessarily end up exposing
themselves in are as that traditionally have gone to the artistic and
studios, galleries, museums, etc., although is in new display environments
that make other relationships with the community and with the same
individuals that make up a specific society, with the aim of generating
social and aesthetic approaches to the construction of a public space.
