Dears,

I would like to inform you shortly about the fights that the Polish
theatre - and me myself - is involve in right now.
I think it has a lot to do with a subject of taboo.
Till Tuesday I was working as a dramaturg in National Stary Theatre in
Krakow - at the production of "Un-dvine Comedy. Remains" directed by
acknowledged Croatian director Oliver Frljić. The performance was
supposed to have a premiere on 7 and 8 of December.
In the meantime the production and theatre itself were aggressively
accused by the right wing media of any sorts of sins: from lack of the
respect for the tradition to destroying the national values. There
were attempts to interupt the other performances in the theatre and
all sorts of treads towards us and the actors of our production were
happening. We were accused of being Jews, traitors of the homeland
and so on.
The paradox is: instead of defending the production and artistic
freedom of the theatre, the management/directors suspended (what in
fact means canceled) the production.
There is a huge discussion in Poland right now, most of it pretty
aggressive and scary. Thanks to the decision of the National Stary
Theatre management, the "real patriots" won a lot of power.

Attached you will find the open letter written by us - the creative
team of the production - so you can get at least some insight into the
situation.

My best regards

Joanna
