Urban cultures and Spatial justice: Greater Detroit, Stockholm, Berlin (30
 hp)

A one-year part-time course focusing on Detroit as a radical example of a segregated, de-invested, former prosperous city. The bankrupt city is surrounded by the most prosperous suburbs
 in the whole US. Greater Detroit is full of surprising contradictions and will be investigated with close eyes on the situations in Stockholm as well as Berlin.

A one-year part-time course about developing a contemporary set of research methods, documentation, and means of public engagement that can
 serve to read today’s emergent urban culture. Participants will develop long-term personal research projects to be presented publicly using alternative media including video, performance, exhibitions, social media, publications, etc.

Situation:

Berlin is a magnet for people and investment. Population is expanding, real estate value is rising, residents are being displaced. More and more Berliners have to or want to move “outside”.

Places:

In and around Berlin Underground stations on the U5 line between Tierpark and Hönow.

Project proposals for 2014 and 2015:

Up to 10 site-specific and communicative artistic projects about social urban development, the urban theme of being “outside” and its contextualization city-wide.

Situation:

Berlin ist Magnet für Menschen und Investitionen. Die Bevölkerung nimmt zu, Immobilienwerte steigen, Verdrängung setzt ein. Mehr und mehr BerlinerInnen müssen oder wollen nach „draußen“.

Orte:

Im Bereich der Berliner U-Bahnstationen der Linie U5 zwischen Tierpark und Hönow.

Gesuchte Projekte für 2014 und 2015:

Bis zu 10 ortsbezogene und kommunikative künstlerische Arbeiten zu Fragen sozialer Stadtentwicklung, gesamtstädtischer Zusammenhänge und urbaner Themen des „Draußen“.
