Revista ARTA is pleased to announce the start of our new project East Art Mags, a program of residencies for young art critics in Eastern Europe. The project was initiated by Cristina Bogdan (Revista ARTA), Klára Peloušková (Artalk.cz <http://revistaarta.us9.list-manage2.com/track/click?u=2a08fdb9ce5e94a16b1f69f08&id=0fab848653&e=f017ed442f>,The Czech Republic), Gergely Nagy (Artportal.hu <http://revistaarta.us9.list-manage.com/track/click?u=2a08fdb9ce5e94a16b1f69f08&id=9047bca34e&e=f017ed442f>, Hungary) and Karolina Plinta (Szum <http://revistaarta.us9.list-manage.com/track/click?u=2a08fdb9ce5e94a16b1f69f08&id=8d48b96bd5&e=f017ed442f>, Poland).
In 2017, eight Romanian writers travel to the three partner countries, where they explore the local scenes under the guidance of the editors, whilst Revista ARTA receives two writers from each partner magazine and helps them immerse into the local art scene.
All of the writers produce texts recording their experience in various forms such as reviews, diaries, interviews, essays. Some of them also hold presentations regarding specific aspects of the contemporary art scene where they are active.
The general aim is to create meaningful interactions and connections leading to a sense of solidarity between young artists, writers and curators active regionally, as well as strengthen the critical apparatus which is available to them in such times of restless questioning and desire to act.
The project kicks off this March, with Ada Muntean (Cluj, Romania) travelling to Prague, Ioana Păun (Bucharest, Romania) going to Budapest, and Karolina Plinta (Warsaw, Poland) visiting Bucharest for the first time.
Ada Muntean (b. 1987) has a BA and an MA in Graphics from the National University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca, and is currently a PhD student at the same institution. She is an artist active internationally and occasionally works as a curator.
Ioana Păun (b. 1984, Romania) is a director working and researching internationally, having graduated from Goldsmiths University London and UNATC Bucharest. Her work explores the ways humans behave in ferocious political, economic and health circumstances.
Karolina Plinta (b. 1988) is an art critic and editor of the magazine Szum. She graduated in art history at the Jagiellonian University, Cracow, currently on PHD studies at the Faculty of Artes Liberales University of Warsaw.
