Workshop „Movement Research“, with Einav Katan-Schmid
Einav Katan-Schmid, dancer and philosopher. She is a core convener for the international network Performance Philosophy, a co-founder of Mo.Ré, a collective for movement research (Berlin), and the author of „Embodied Philosophy in Dance; Gaga and Ohad Naharin's Movement Research“ (Palgrave Macmillan, 2016).
Through imagination and play, we will research bodily textures, rhythm, effort, somatic attention, clarity of intention, and our internal feelings and their relationship with movement. We will use a variety of somatic tools to guide us through this exploration. The practice offered leads to a heightened engagement and awareness of your full body, mind, spirit and encourages freedom and curiosity to explore movement.
No former dance experience is needed. Bring comfortable clothes. We dance barefoot or in socks. Language of guidance: English

The presentations and discussion refer to the idea of research as a way of knowledge production or a process of learning something that is not yet known in order to question the concept of knowledge itself - what is recognized as knowledge? What forms of knowledge are excluded in the educational system? How does knowledge shape the way we think, act and relate? And can the unknown be approached by unlearning what is known? Knowledge is a matrix through which we build stories and narratives about us, others and our environment. But destruction and exploitation all over the globe – climate change, populist voices and social hostility confirm and remind that our story is outdated and distorted and this crisis chain is rooted in an epistemological error. What knowledge do we need in order to cultivate more inclusive, emphatic and response-able social collectives in which contradictions, openness and diversity are accepted as part of being and developing together? A collective which is not positioned outside of nature, but recognizes itself as being part of an ecological web. We'll talk about the interrelation of embodiment, educational institutions and ecological awareness.
