Groundwork South
West is looking to engage contemporary artists/arts groups to work
alongside our local trust, Groundwork Devon and Cornwall, with the
intention of radically reassessing what current contemporary practice
could bring to our work and organisation.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>
We wish to develop
an ongoing programme of contemporary art commissioning, and are keen to
work with a wide range of practices including; performance/live art, sound
art, video/film, installation, media, sculpture, and everything in-between
and beyond.&nbsp;&nbsp; We are
looking for artists who reflect our own organisation's ethos and ideals
and who therefore have a critical engagement with some or all of the
following; public space (both urban and rural), environmental regeneration
and sustainability, individual/community empowerment and participation.

To begin this
process, we are calling for expressions of interest for artist(s) in
residence. The intention is for the selected artist(s) to engage in a
residency period with Groundwork, possibly, although not necessarily,
culminating in a new piece of work. Engaging creatively with Groundwork's
staff and community-based projects and the process of working is seen to
be as important as a final 'product'. Rather than prescribe a specific
outcome, we want to work in collaboration with the chosen artist's
practice and plan the residency accordingly.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>
To run in
conjunction with the commission, we will be offering a mentoring
opportunity for current arts students to assist/learn from the artist in
residence. There will also be the opportunity for both to gain general
training and experience within Groundwork to learn more about our
organisation.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>
The fee for the
residency commission is £4,000 (Equivalent to £200 x 20 days). This fee
includes travel, subsistence and any production/material costs. Work
patterns (full time, part-time etc.) will be negotiable.

Submission
details:<o:p></o:p>
Please submit a hardcopy of your CV,
artist's statement and visual material in the form of CDRom, DVD, website
URL etc. The artist's statement should include details of previous
relevant work, the approach you would like to take with the residency and
how you feel this would benefit your practice. Enclose an SAE for return
of materials if applicable.<o:p></o:p>

Short-listed artists will be contacted
no later than 20/07/07 and will be invited to present their work to a
final selection panel at our offices in Plymouth on
