call for professional visual artists

1. PROFESSIONAL ARTISTS.
The exhibition is open to professional visual art artists as defined in
Bill S-32.01 on the professional status of visual artists; chapter II
(articles 7 and 8):
7- Every creator in the field of visual arts, arts and crafts or
literature has the status of a professional artist if:
1- he declares himself to be a professional artist;
2- he produces works on his own behalf;
3- his works are exhibited, produced, published, presented to the public
or marketed by a promoter;
4- he has been recognized by his peers as a professional artist by way of
an honourable mention, an award, a prize, a scholarship, an appointment to
a jury committee or an invitation to participate in a salon, or by other
similar means.
8- Every artist who is a professional member of a recognized association
or who is part of a group recognized under section 10 (by the Commission
de reconnaissance des associations d’artistes) is deemed to be a
professional artist.
2. EXHIBITION CATEGORIES.
Wood and/or paper
1- Painting 2- Drawing 3- Print 4- Low-relief, High-relief and Sculpture
3. DIMENSIONS.
a) For a two-dimensional artwork, the maximum image size is 7.5 cm x 10 cm
(3”x 4“).
The maximum outside dimensions of paper or support are 15 cm x 20 cm (6”x
8”). b) For a three-dimensional artwork, the maximum dimensions are 7.5 cm
x 7.5 cm x 10 cm (3”x 3”x 4”) including stand or support.
4. PRESENTATION.
Each artwork :
a) must be signed;
b) must be entitled and include an arrow on the back indicating the right
direction of the work;
c) must be unframed. An artist wishing to protect a fragile work on a
board or a mat may only use a neutral colour as a mounting background;
d) indicate the selling price of the artwork in Canadian dollars. La Salle
Augustin-Chénier will mount all works in the same style (’’floating
sheet’’) in an 8’’x 10’’ frame.
5. ENTRY FEES.
a) $30 for the first artwork; b) $10 for a second work. Every artist may
present a maximum of two works. The fees are payable in Canadian or
American funds by certified check, international draft or money order.
The works that do not respect points 1-2-3-4-5 will not be accepted.
6. JURY.
The jury is made up of three prominent individuals from the visual arts.
The members of the jury will select a prize-winning work of art in each
category. Decisions of the jury (work acceptance and winning-prize work)
are final and not subject to appeal.
7. PRIZES.
$4,000 Canadian in cash awards to be distributed as follows: a) Grand
prize: $1,000 and Montélimar Prize (bursary funds to be used to attend the
Montélimar exhibition opening); b) Public award: $500; c) Award of
Excellence: $500 per category; d) Regional prize: $500
8. SALES COMMISSION.
All works submitted for exhibition must be for sale. For each work sold,
La Salle Augustin-Chénier will deduct a 30% commission from the selling
price as specified by the artist on the entry form.
9. REPRODUCTION RIGHTS.
The artist gives La Salle Augustin-Chénier a non-exclusive and transferable
licence to copy, publish and communicate by telecommunication any
representation of his/her work presented at the IMAB, to promote the
event. This license does not have a geographic nor time limit.
10. INSURANCE.
La Salle Augustin-Chénier assumes responsibility for artwork if lost or
damaged while on Gallery premises up to but not exceeding the value of the
work. La Salle Augustin-Chénier will not accept any responsibility while
the artwork is in transit to or from its premises.
11. RETURN.
All artwork unsold and not selected (see point 17) will be returned by
mail to the artists in the same condition as when it was received, within
three months following the end of the exhibition.
12. PUBLICATION.
La Salle Augustin-Chénier will publish a catalogue listing the names of
the members of the jury as well as reproductions of the winning works and
a biography of the prizewinning artists.
13. EXHIBITION DATE.
May 18th to September 7th, 2008
14. PLACE OF EXHIBITION.

15. SHIPMENTS.
All shipments must contain: a) the entry form duly completed; b) the works
to be presented at the Biennale; c) all entry and handling fees; d) a
curriculum vitae (resumé), maximum of two pages, including vocational
training, main exhibitions and accomplishments; e) a written presentation
of the work, maximum of one page.
16. DEADLINE.
February 1st, 2008
17. TRAVELLING EXHIBITION.
The selected and prizewinning artwork will be included in a travelling
exhibition
in France (musée de la miniature de Montélimar), in Italy (musée d’art
contemporain du Château de Rivoli); and in any other opportunity which may
present itself during the years 2008 and 2009.
18. CONFIRMATION OF PARTICIPATION ON THE INTERNET SITE.
The accepted artists will find a list of participating artists on the
internet site. This list constitutes a formal confirmation of
participation in the IMAB. It will be on-line in April 2008.
