Stückemarkt

The Stückemarkt or “play market”, an integral feature of the
Theatertreffen since 1978, is a market place for writers, agents,
theatremakers, critics and audiences. First and foremost it is a
springboard for young, as yet unknown dramatists from across Europe. In
almost every case, staged readings at the Stückemarkt have proved to be a
decisive step in the careers of emerging writers.

After Anja Hilling, Oliver Schmaering, Nuran David Calis, Dirk Laucke and
Thomas Freyer now the participants of the Stückemarkt 2007 are on the
road to success: Arna Aley, Maria Kilpi, Philipp Löhle, Ali Taylor,
Volker Schmidt and Kai-Ivo Baulitz can look forward to the upcoming world
premieres of their plays.



Plays wanted!

For the Stückemarkt 2008, we are again inviting dramatists and theatre
publishers from all over Europe to submit new plays in any European
language. The only requirement is that the plays must not have been
premièred or performed in Germany before. The jury, consisting of
renowned theatre professionals from various fields, will select five texts
for the Stückemarkt. These will then be presented in scenic readings
during the Theatertreffen in May. Experienced directors and dramaturges
will produce these readings in cooperation with the authors. Five further
authors will be selected by the jury to take part in the dramatists’
workshop with the author and dramaturg John von Düffel. Together with the
German Federal Agency for Civic Education the Stückemarkt will award the
New Playwriting Prize (worth 5000 €) and the tt stückemarkt Commission
(worth 7.000 €), both include a premiere at a leading German-language
theatre.



New in 2008: One of the selected plays will be produced and broadcasted as
a radio play by Deutschlandradio Kultur.

The Stückemarkt jury 2008 consists of the following five theatremakers.



􀂃 Nuran David Calis – Writer/Director (München)



􀂃 Viola Hasselberg – Dramaturg (Freiburg)



􀂃 Iris Laufenberg – Director Theatertreffen (Berlin)



􀂃 Dea Loher – Writer (Berlin)



􀂃 Koen Tachelet – Dramaturg/Author (NT Gent)



Conditions of Entry



􀂃 No author may submit more than one play.



􀂃 The play may not be more than two years old and until the reading at
the Stückemarkt may not be produced or offered for production in a
German-speaking country.



􀂃 Plays may be entered in their original language. Translation is not
required. However, if either a German or an English translation is
available, one copy of this may be included.



􀂃 Plays entered for the competition in previous years are not eligible.



􀂃 Any submitted scripts, cds, discs and other materials cannot be
returned.



Please submit your script by post in three bound copies, together with one
copy in electronic form. All submissions should also be accompanied by
four copies of a short biography and a brief synopsis.

At the same time as sending us your text we kindly ask you for your
registration via internet with the application form on
www.stueckemarkt.de.
