Giga-Hertz-Award 2008

The Members of the Jury 2008 are nominated

An excellent international jury will decide about the awarding of the
2nd Giga-Hertz-Award for electronic music. The members of the jury 2008
besides the heads of the two involved studios – Ludger Brümmer (Head of
ZKM | Institute for Music and Acoustics Karlsruhe) and Detlef Heusinger
(Head of Experimentalstudio for acoustic art, Freiburg) – are:

François Bayle, pioneer of electroacoustic and acousmatic music who
developed the famous Acousmonium,

Jonathan Harvey, one of the most skilled, and imaginative composers of
our time who in 2007 was awarded with the first Giga-Hertz-Grand Prize
in recognition of his lifework,

Armin Köhler, editor-in-chief for New Music at the SWR broadcasting
corporation and responsible for the Donaueschingen Music Festival,

and

Peter Weibel, CEO of the ZKM Karlsruhe, former artistic director of the
Ars Electronica in Linz, and professor at the University of Applied Arts
Vienna.


The 2nd Giga-Hertz-Award for electronic music is open for entries until
April 19, 2008. The Giga-Hertz-Award addresses composers working in the
areas of electronic and acousmatic music. Four Special Prizes are
awarded once a year. Candidates are judged on the basis of a composition
not more than five years old and a proposal for a projected work.

The Special Prize consists of a project realization grant to the amount
of 8.000 Euro with which the prize winners realize their submitted
proposal either at the ZKM | Institute for Music and Acoustics in
Karlsruhe or at the SWR-EXPERIMENTALSTUDIO in Freiburg.

Giga-Hertz-Preis 2008

Die Zusammensetzung der Jury steht fest

Auch in diesem Jahr wird eine hochkarätig besetzte internationale Jury
über die Vergabe des Giga-Hertz-Preises für elektronische Musik
entscheiden. Ihr werden neben den beiden künstlerischen Leitern der
beteiligten Studius – Ludger Brümmer (Leitung ZKM | Institut für Musik
und Akustik) und Detlef Heusinger (Experimentalstudio für akustische
Kunst e.V. in Freiburg) angehören:
François Bayle, Pionier der elektroakustischen und akusmatischen Musik
und Entwickler des berühmten Akusmoniums,
Jonathan Harvey, einer der handwerklich fundiertesten und
einfallsreichsten Komponisten unserer Zeit, der 2007 den erstmals
verliehenen Giga-Hertz-Hauptpreis in Anerkennung für sein Lebenswerk
erhielt,
Armin Köhler, Redaktionsleiter für Neue Musik beim SWR und
verantwortlich für die Donaueschinger Musiktage,
sowie
Peter Weibel, Vorstand des ZKM Karlsruhe, ehemaliger Leiter der Ars
Electronica in Linz und Professor für visuelle Mediengestaltung an der
Hochschule für angewandte Kunst in Wien.

Bewerbungen für den zweiten Giga-Hertz-Preis für elektronische Musik
werden noch bis 19. April 2008 entgegengenommen. Der Preis richtet sich
an Komponisten der elektronischen und akusmatischen Musik und sieht vier
Produktionspreise vor. Grundlage der Preisvergabe sind eine Komposition
der letzten fünf Jahre sowie ein Projektvorschlag für ein zu
realisierendes Werk.

Der Produktionspreis besteht aus einem Realisationsstipendium in Höhe
von je 8.000 Euro, mit dem die Preisträger ihr eingereichtes Projekt
entweder am ZKM | Institut für Musik und Akustik oder am
SWR-Experimentalstudio in Freiburg verwirklichen können.
