The CANTEMIR Programme was established in 2006, under the procedures,
criteria, and provisions Law no. 350/2005, as well as those of the GO
9/1996, as a pilot programme that awards non-reimbursable financing to
Romanian cultural projects aimed at international audiences.
In 2008, the objectives of the CANTEMIR Programme are to:
- increase Romanian culture’s visibility and accessibility on
international cultural markets;
- encourage co-operation between Romanian and foreign artists.

Consequently, support will be given to artists and cultural operators from
Romania who wish for a Romanian participation in major international
festivals from abroad and to cultural operators from Romania and outside
Romania who initiate projects to promote Romanian culture and civilisation
abroad or projects of cultural co-operation intended to encourage
inter-cultural dialogue.

For 2008, Programul CANTEMIR Programme is structured into 3 sections, each
with their own specific objectives, priorities and conditions of
eligibility.

ELIGIBILE APPLICANTS:
The following may apply: Romanian/foreign private individuals or
private/public legal entities, respectively authorised or founded in
accordance with Romanian or foreign law, that wish to achieve a cultural
project.
ARTISTIC FIELDS:
The project must fall within one or more of the following fields:
literature, visual arts, architecture and design, theatre, music, dance,
film, cultural heritage.

LIMIT DATES WITHIN WHICH PROJECTS SHALL UNFOLD:
The project activities for which financing is solicited may unfold
commencing 12 May (for projects evaluated within the framework of the
first session) or commencing 15 July (for projects evaluated within the
framework of the second session) and shall finish by 31 October 2008.

DEADLINES FOR SUBMISSION OF THE PROJECT PROPOSALS:
• 16 May for the second evaluation session;
The second session will be held in case the budget will not be exhausted
after the first evaluation session.

The total indicated budget available for each section is 237.500 EURO. The
maximum value of financing that may be awarded to a project within the
framework of this section is 50.000 EURO.

Financing on the part of the Romanian Cultural Institute will be granted
in instalments, according to the financing contract. The first instalment
will be granted in the beginning of the project and the final instalment
cannot be less than fifteen per cent of the total financing.

Non-reimbursable financing is not awarded for profit-making activities.
