Berliner Künstlerprogramm - international guest programme, Berlin

deadline: Jan 1 2009

A jury annually selects approximately 20 international guests for the
Berliner Künstlerprogramm 12 month residencies. Artists in the fields of
literature, film and music may apply.

In addition to the monthly grant, an apartment, workspace (studio) and
funds for projects relating to Berlin are provided.

Application forms
The application form for the Berliner Künstlerprogramm can be downloaded
here in formular.pdf

The deadline in each case is January 1. The jury sitting will convene in
the spring.

To apply, please submit the completed application form and the following
work materials:

1. Writers:
Your publications (preferably in German, otherwise if possible in English
or French) – but please no more than 4 or 5 books; reviews. No
manuscripts.

2. Composers:
Scores, recordings (records, CDs, DVDs), videos, your publications, but
please no more than 3 or 4 samples. All materials for each sound sample –
i.e. the score, a description of the work, photos, videos – should be
clearly collated for the jurors. If specific parts are to be listened to,
they should be marked accordingly.

3. Filmmakers:
Videotapes, DVDs (please note: copied DVDs are often not readable,
therefore NTSC, PAL, Beta preferred), scripts – but please no more than 2
work samples, preferably most recent works, with subtitles. Please include
a synopsis of every film submitted.
Maximum viewing time per candidate: 15 minutes. Thus, please mark the
extracts which you would prefer to be viewed, especially with regards to
long films.

All materials submitted must be clearly marked with name and year created.
For economic reasons, only original work material (books, scores, films)
can be returned. Copies, manuscripts, copied CDs, DVDs and tapes will not
be returned. The DAAD cannot assume any responsibility for submitted
materials.

Please note:
Every year, invitations coupled with grants are extended to 20
internationally known younger artists to spend 12 months in Berlin.
Invitations to filmmakers are issued for 6 months.
In the field of visual arts, a commission recommends invitations to
internationally known artists. Therefore, applications in the field of
visual arts are not possible.

An invitation to the Berliner Künstlerprogramm is one of the most sought-
after scholarships in the world. Therefore, because of the exceptionally
large number of applications compared to the limited number of
scholarships available, many highly qualified applications cannot be
considered. The non-acceptance of an application is not in any way a
negative value-judgment about the artistic work of the applicant.
Reapplication is possible
