Hosted by Ramona Mitrica, Director of the Ratiu Foundation /
Romanian Cultural Centre in London
Following the invitation launched by the Ratiu Foundation / Romanian Cultural
Centre in London, choreographer and arts manager Cosmin Manolescu
will make an introduction on the contemporary dance scene in Romania in the
frame of Culture Power.
The video lecture âDance.Ro â Romanian contemporary dance
todayâ will give an insight into recent developments on the
contemporary dance scene in Romania. It will be illustrated with video clips
from âDans.Ro 2007â, a special DVD produced by Gabriela Tudor
& Project DCM Foundation with the support of Romanian Ministry of
Culture, as well as with excerpts from different Romanian choreographers and
projects. A Q&A session will follow.
This event is dedicated to the memory of Gabriela Tudor, an arts manager who
played a major role in the development of contemporary dance in Romania.
Cosmin
Manolescu is a Bucharest-based choreographer and
cultural manager. He is the executive director of Gabriela Tudor Foundation
(the new name of the former Project DCM Foundation).
Cosmin made his debut as a choreographer in 1994 part of the Marginalii, one
of the first collective dance group created after the Romanian revolution of
1989. Since then, his artistic works have been successfully presented in
important festivals and venues in Amsterdam, Barcelona, Beirut, Bremen,
Bucharest, Dublin, Florence, Liverpool, Lyon, New York, Diego, Paris, Rome,
San Francisco, etc. Together with Gabriela Tudor, he created in 1997 the
Project DCM Foundation and played an important role in the development of
contemporary dance in Romania. Since 1997 they have been collaborated
together in several dance projects such as Balkan Dance Platform, a regional
showcase taking place every two years in a Balkan country, BucharEast.West
international dance festival (2001, 2003), Sibiu Dans 2007, Migrant Body
(2006-2007), Serial Paradise (2003-2007), Private Show (1999 â 2007),
Dans.Ro 2007 tour, ArtistNe(s)t (2006 â 2008).
âSupersomethingâ (2008-2009) was the last final artistic project
on which Cosmin Manolescu worked with Gabriela before she passed away.
Cosmin also developed projects in collaboration and with the support of DTW
New York, and the Trust for Mutual Understanding and DanceAdvance
Philadelphia. He is the recipient of several awards and fellowships such us:
the Award of the Soros Center for Contemporary Arts for the development of
the contemporary dance in Romania (Bucharest, 1998); ArtsLink Fellowship
(USA, 2002); SACD and Sogeda Awards for the project âDonât Ask
the Blondâ (Monaco Dance Forum, 2004); Prize âNouveau Talent
Choregraphieâ (SACD Paris, 2005).
