1. Passion of Mankind
Invitation
Hereby we invite artists from all over the world to send proposal for
the Luleå Summer Biennial 2007. The theme is Passion of Mankind.
There are no restrictions regarding material or technique. A jury
will select the participating artists among the sketch proposals.

CONDITIONS AND INSTRUCTIONS
Information
For the past 17 years, the KILen artists group in Luleå, together
with the City of Luleå, has held and developed international artistic
events in Luleå in northern Sweden. Their aim is to create one of the
most interesting artistic events in the world.
Luleå  and the region has been developed, through the history, from
its ore and steel industry, until today´s high technology and science.

Duration
Construction period June 11 - June 19.
Exhibition period June 20 - August 19.

Location
Luleå Summer Biennial is held at two separate locations, one inside
and one outside:
• The Art Hall – At the new Culture House.
• The Museum Park.

Participants
• 20 Artists from all over the world will be accepted to participate
in the biennial. The jury will make its selection based on the sketch
proposals that have been received by the Luleå Summer Biennial
organizer before February 15, 2007.
•  Each artist may be accompanied by a colleague who can either share
the project or work as an assistant. Please indicate this at the
appropriate place on the application form.
• Participants partake at their own risk. Ensure that you have
arranged adequte insurance cover.

Travel and accomodation
•	The organizer will pay for a return journey (round trip) to
Luleå for one artist.
•	Accommodation for two people from each art project, including
food, will be provided by the organizer during the construction
period (June 11 to the morning of June 21). The accommodation and
food expenses for any other person who may travel with the artist and
his assistant will not be provided by the organizer.

Fees
•	An Exhibition fee of SEK 3000 (about USD 430) for each artist
with accompanied colleague or assistant, will be paid by the
organizer.
• Two grants worth SEK 8,000 (about 1100 USD) each will be awarded.
•	If the work of art is to be for sale, please indicate the
price at the appropriate place on the application form. The
organizer´s commission fee is 20 %.
If it is not for sale please indicate it´s insurable value.


Materials
•	There are no restrictions regarding material or technique.
•	Those artists wishing to create their works in Luleå must
specify the materials they require that they would like the
organizers to arrange.
• The materials are on the organizers expense.
•	If the artist has any special needs regarding to the project,
let us know. We will provide any assistance possible.

Tools
We can provide the artist with tools and equipment that the artist
are unable to carry with him/her. Please, let us know in advance
exactly which tools that will be needed.

•	The organizer reserve the right to publish photographs and
films showing the exhibits.

5. Call for artists - Artist-in-Residence Invitation Program -
IAMAS/Japan
IAMAS (Institute of Advanced Media Arts and Sciences and
International Academy of Media Arts and Science) conducts an Artist-
in-Residence invitational program for a 6 months period
between 1st April 2007 and 31st March 2008.
Each year IAMAS invites outstanding artists to support new and
creative activities wherein scientific knowledge and artistic
sensibility are aesthetically combined.
Application Deadline : 31st December 2006.
